A message re: Ad Posted in Student Centre
September 1, 2017
We were made aware of a concerning York Region advertisement that appeared in the Student Centre. As a University with a commitment to safety and equity we were troubled by the content of the advertisement.
We have a strict postering policy that applies to all buildings operated by the University. Since the Student Centre is operated independently we were not consulted about the advertisement. We have been informed by the Student Centre that they instructed that the ad be removed.
We understand that this content may have been triggering or upsetting to survivors and members of our community. If you are or anyone you know is in need of support, we're here for you. The Sexual Violence Response Office is H.E.R.E to Help, Educate, Respond and Empower survivors and members of our community. We encourage you to continue to reach out to us, if you need anything or wish to share any concerns.
- The French translation of the Sexual Violence Policy (Politique sur la violence sexuelle) is now available.
- York University's Sexual Violence Policy is University-wide and applicable to all students, staff and faculty.
